Summary

A clear guide to what the prostate is, where it sits, and why it matters for your health.

The prostate is a small, walnut sized gland found only in men, located just below the bladder and in front of the rectum. It wraps around the urethra, the tube that carries urine out of the body. Its main job is to produce fluid that nourishes and transports sperm during ejaculation.

Why the Prostate Matters

Although the prostate is small, it plays a central role in both urinary and reproductive health. As men age, the prostate tends to grow, which can sometimes press on the urethra and cause urinary symptoms. Understanding how this gland works is the first step toward protecting your long term health.

How It Changes Over Time

Most men will experience some prostate growth after age 40. For many, this causes no problems. For others, it can lead to frequent urination, weak flow, or waking up at night to use the bathroom. These changes are common and often manageable with the right guidance.
