Summary
What to expect in the weeks after prostate surgery and how to heal well.

Recovery after prostate surgery varies by procedure, but knowing what to expect helps you heal with confidence and patience.

The First Days

You will likely have a catheter for about one to two weeks to drain urine while the area heals. Some blood in the urine is normal at first. You will be encouraged to walk and stay hydrated.

Managing Side Effects

Temporary urinary leakage is common as the bladder control muscles regain strength. Pelvic floor exercises, done consistently, speed recovery. Changes in sexual function may occur and often improve over months.

Returning to Activity

Most men resume light activities within a few weeks and full activity in four to six weeks. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise until your doctor clears you.
